I’ve got my clean Japanese roadster, but I’m curious about taking on a project car in the future, and I’ve always had a minor thing for red Fox body notches, the LX V8 87-93.

How are they to work on, as a first project car?

Great.

There’s a TON of info out there about them, and there’s a TON of parts availability as well. You can build anything from a 200+ mph salt racer to a parade float. You are only limited by your wallet.

I want to say 1986+ 5.0 engines had roller cams and forged pistons from the factory...

Can’t go wrong with a Fox for a first project. Two things you want to watch for are battered Torque Boxes (Rear-lower control arm mount) and bent rear axles.

As someone who is working on one, they are awesome little shitboxes. Yes... Shitboxes.

Imagine that one friend you had growing up that everyone hated, but for some reason, you two understood each other. He/She was loud, obnoxious, heck you might have even shared first experiences, but everytime you were with them life seemed ok.

That is the power of the 5.0 Foxbody...

DO IT!!!! and know life!!!

Unfortunately, The Fox in my life is a mutual friend, but a darned good one. Took her out for a spin to practice driving stick.... I want my own one day.

In all seriousness, they are fun cars and extremely easy to tear down and rebuild.

I’ve never had one but I’ve had a few friends with ‘em. They’re simple and pretty easy to work on, from what I’ve seen. And you can’t ask for a better aftermarket than the Mustang aftermarket.
